A history of excellence of the industrious Italian North-East

About us

Erminio Bonetto opens his workshop in 1922 in Porta Monte, Vicenza – a few steps from the Renaissance masterpieces by Andrea Palladio: Villa Capra “la Rotonda” and the Arch of Ladders of Monte Berico. At that time, Borgo Berga was a strategic location for trade in the city. In fact, this district was the river port of Vicenza, where all incoming goods were deposited.

The ingenious Erminio Bonetto harnesses the power of water of Bacchiglione River to build a mill. This mill activated, by belts and pulleys, a visionary circular saw. In this way, he began to serve the carpenters of the area sawing for them the big wooden boards that until then were cut by hand.

“EACH PIECE OF WOOD IS ALIVE
AND HAS INSIDE THE SHAPE THAT YOUR MIND IS CREATING.”

These words have been assimilated, passed down and adopted by three generations.
The respect and creative tension to enhance the raw material is only one of the company’s guidelines.

About us

At 27 he wins his first major contract that is to build ammunition crates for the rifles of the Italian army. At the same time, he makes all sorts of custom-made furniture for the houses of the people in Vicenza.

The successes continue: for 30 years, all post offices in the province are furnished with thousands of desks and office drawers made by Bonetto’s workshop, which already at that time employed 7 carpenters.

About us

His son, Olinto – who was only 12 – joins his father, driven by a great passion for the art of carpentry. During World War II, despite the bombing in Borgo Berga and being displaced for safety reasons, the Bonetto’s family continues to work in its workshop, leaving Cavazzale at dawn by bicycle.

Olinto shows great skill and precision in woodworking. For years he stayed late in the workshop, after dinner, to build cuckoo clocks. This passion was a small source of income for a young man who aspired to economic independence from his family. A commitment that has definitely formed the temperament of the future entrepreneur.

“TO EACH HIS OWN WORK.”

The carpenter must not design, he must saw. The designer must not plane, he must draw.
Bonetto hires only highly skilled and competent professionals, who are respectful of the roles and capable of interacting to strive for perfection.

About us

Olinto, close to marriage and to take over the family business, is dressed up for an important interview at Montanari Palace, the headquarters of the prestigious Banca Cattolica. Here he gets a fabulous assignment:

make the furnishings for the branches of Banca Cattolica (then Ambrosiana) in Veneto. This prestigious responsibility is maintained for almost 50 years: in 2007 the company waives “of its own accord” to participate in the national tenders managed online.

About us

Paolo Bonetto, Olinto’s son, the third generation of craftsmen entrepreneurs, joins the company. Paolo brings the company a new energy and begins to build, with his father’s support, a new corporate vision. Thus the process of industrialisation begins, and the company specialises and expands rapidly.

Therefore, it becomes a strategic partner for the most acclaimed architects of the national and international scene. The very high quality of the finishes and the technical experience in solving all executive problems are the real cornerstones of Bonetto Art Legno up to the present day.

“OUR FIRST CUSTOMER IS OURSELVES.”

Design the details, predict the problems, find the solutions, schedule work, optimise the materials…
Handling the piece of furniture with the delicacy of a father and watching it with the critical eye of the most severe judge is what happens every day in our workshop.
Because each of us would do so, if they were to design and build their own home.
